Winter is cold anyway.
So why half-arse it?

In a nutshell:

For a couple of years now, we’ve got some friends together and headed to Estonia for a winter getaway….

And it’s been kind of fucking amazing!

In winter (or ‘off-season’ as the Estonia tourism industry calls it) almost everything we needed was a reduced price. Combine that with our local connections, Estonia’s ridiculously gorgeous nature and their homely food/drink/sauna/general culture and we started to realise we’d stumbled onto an absolute winner of a winter destination!

So we’re doing it yet again in 2023

 Why Estonia?

“Think Eastern-European prices and tight-knit community vibes crossed with Scandinavian infrastructure and technology”

The Location
Nestled away in the North-Eastern corner of Europe, Estonia’s fresh history (it’s only been a country for 100 years!!) and distance from the Western tourist hubs means it doesn’t get the crushing masses that somewhere like France would.

The Nature
Our first experience was on our original world tour where we stumbled in from Latvia to realise that not only is the country full of free camp sites maintained by their government - already a good sign - but they even provided pre-cut firewood as well as log cabins available for rent along with toilets and watchtowers you can climb to get a better view of how well they’ve taken care of their little patch of Earth! They have some stunning outdoor spots there and they take care of them fantastically.

They Know How To ‘Winter’!
Fairly self-explanatory. Their food is fresh out of a babushka’s “cookbook for enjoying winter” and their vast array of locally brewed drinks (not just vodka, thankfully) pairs well with practically every house in Estonia having a sauna!
Saunas are a social affair here, where you alternate between, sauna, snow and socialising over drinks and snacks… compared to any other sauna we’ve been in around the world - they pretty much win hands down.

Our Local Connections
Having been to Estonia a buuuunch of times now, we’ve got the hook up! Local knowledge, advice and guidance are already great but throw in some authentic accommodation and we’ve won before we’ve even got there!
(Yes, there will be saunas!)

A Bit Of Adventure
Cabin fever has hit us hard at Convoy HQ so we’ve been looking for the best (and covid-safest) way of getting a bit of action and freedom into our lives right now and we reckon our best bet is to get a squad together, head out to the middle of nature for a week, get some incredibly fresh air and just take a moment to enjoy some of winter’s beauty (rather than having the UK rain on us the whole time).

…So yeah, Estonia’s pretty breathtaking. Join us!

WARNING:
This is a real adventure. Things can go wrong, times can be tough and as with any overlanding journey there is the possibility of being injured or worse.
These risks and the rewards that come with them are what make such unorthodox adventures so fantastic, but do not mistake it for an all-inclusive package holiday.

COVID:
Everything written above is dependant on the route remaining open and the situation at the time.
We have several backup plans in case of disruptions but if the trip is unable to go ahead, refunds will be given (minus any processing fees).
