Top 5 Accoms under £5 a night

A lot of people wouldn’t imagine that £5 would get you a night’s accommodation anywhere in the world, as in the UK it barely gets you lunch at a regular chain cafe. However we have been fortunate enough to have experienced some incredible hospitality across the globe and i'd like to share with you five of my favourite places we have stayed that cost us under £5 for the night.

1. Yurt in Issyk Kul, Kyrgyzstan - £3 per night

We have been fortunate enough to have stayed in many yurts in our travels across Central Asia, many of which have been given to us for very affordable prices, however this one really was fantastic. Located in Issyk Kul, a few hours drive from the capital city Bishkek, was a small collection of yurts to stay in by the lake. They were traditionally built and had onsite facilities such as showers, toilets and BBQ areas. This is true glamping as you still experience the natural aspects of sleeping in the great outdoors, combined with our creature comforts!

2. Jorge's Rope Swing, Flores - Guatemala £4 per night

Back in 2017 we were driving through Guatemala and we found this little haven called Jorge's Rope Swing, so we took a water taxi across Lake Flores and spent a day hanging out, drinking beer and eating delicious home cooked food. We later found out that you could stay the night in the owners home and this was one of the bedrooms available. Once we found out it would cost us around £4 for the night to stay, we were sold. We got to see the most spectacular sunset and enjoy the sounds of nature as we slept.

3. Tuz Golu, Turkey - £0 per night

If you are familiar with what we do, then you will know we spend a lot of time wild camping and this means that we often get to stay in some of the most unique and beautiful places. It was difficult to choose, but one of my favourite spots was camping on the Tuz Golu salt flats in Turkey. During the summer months the lake is dry and the ground solid (ish) and you get some of the most beautiful stargazing experiences here. The nearest cities are a fair distance so the sky is super clear.

4. Fabrika Hostel - Tbilisi, Georgia £5 per night

Located in the capital of Georgia is Fabrika Hostel which has become quite a hub for backpackers and digital nomads. The building was an abandoned textiles factory that had been used during the Soviet Union. Now, after being transformed it has become a hub of creativity and exchange and is popular with both locals and tourists as a place to hang out. They also have a variety of rooms and private penthouse apartments, but for as little as £5 you can get a bed in a dorm, which I think is perfect.

5. Playa Roca Tulum Camping in Tulum, Mexico - £2 per night

Sleeping close to the beach is a very freeing experience, but it can sometimes be quite expensive as you are paying for the view. However when we were in Tulum, Mexico, nestled between the hotels and glamping sites was a small campground where we could pitch our tents and hammocks for a small fee of £2 per person per night. Within seconds we could walk from our tent and be swimming in the sea. This has to be one of my most favorite places to have stayed the night.
